ORGANIC ABSTRACTION IN THE BREATH OF COLOR
BEHIND THE ARTIST
CREATING HER OWN ART
Originality of expression has been the constant in Lynn’s pursuit of creating art, ever since she was a little girl. Her father, a nuclear physicist and artist, instilled the idea of creating her own art after Lynn won a competition for her copied horse. Enthusiastically supporting her gift, her father gave her his treasured wooden charcoal box, and her mother enrolled her in art classes and competitions.
Accomplished in both science and art like her father, Lynn obtained her Masters of Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. Her curriculum throughout schooling always included art history and studio classes. “I loved mathematics and art and never saw them as different, but rather intertwined languages.”
Diligently learning the principles of design and mathematical proportion that inform beauty, Lynn has accumulated knowledge and skills from realist masters like David Leffel and Richard Schmid, but never forsaking her father’s charge to make her own art, used these as a springboard to pursue her voice as a sophisticated abstractionist.
Lynn's organic abstractions mix equal parts discipline, skill, and play. Always inspired by God's creation, she remembers as a little girl being fascinated by the expression of trees, the texture and patterns of moss, and the bright vivid colors of flowers that are so prominent in her work today.
BALANCING INTENTION AND REACTION
Lynn's interest in abstraction pushed against the tight restraints of pastel and oil, until she discovered encaustics. The balance between intention of purpose and reaction to the materials is a constant challenge that inspires her work forward.
CALLED TO REFLECT BEAUTY
Celebrating God's specific providence in her life, she creates art that reflects her gratitude and joy. Ever attracted to her husband's aesthetic for beauty and quality, together they design timeless masterpieces worthy of admiration and have instilled these traits in their children and grandchildren.
